Classical

Classical music is the discipline in which many musicians begin their musical education. Learning music that created the foundations for Western music as it is today completely rounds our experience as a performer. As a young chorister herself, Rebecca understands how classical music can enrich a persons musical experience at a young age, just as much as it can in later life. With years experience of choral singing, performing for both radio and television, as well as an advanced and varied knowledge of classical repertoire, Rebecca Joanne can craft out a learning pathway through classical music to create adept and versatile interpreters of Western art music. The ABRSM examinations are often a major part of classical learning; although they are not compulsory, they are something that aspiring classical musicians would be encouraged to undertake.

Jazz

Jazz is often seen as an elitist subject; however, it is often seen as this simply because it can be complex. Jazz is an exciting genre to study, and it is certainly a genre that requires both in depth theoretical knowledge combined with excellent technical skills. Rebecca Joanne studied jazz as her specialism in her degree, and her passion for it has made her want to pass her experience on to her students. Jazz lessons will involve technical study, knowledge of repertoire as well as theoretical study, as it is crucial to know the fundamentals of music. With engaging repertoire ranging from the Jazz standards famously sung by Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and many others, to the modern Jazz of Esperanza Spalding, Kurt Elling and Lalah Hathaway, this genre has something for everyone.

Pop

With popular music at it’s accessible height, everybody wants to be a pop star, but to have the edge you need technique and training. Pop is often given a bad name, with lots of famous performers shying away from singing live, and giving bad performances when they do; however, people don’t want to accept this anymore and they want to see real singers performing live. If you want to learn how to perform popular songs with precision and power, then studying singing will undoubtedly benefit you, whether you have already started singing pop music, or if you want to start.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is a specialist area of music that not only requires excellent technique, but it also requires stage presence and the ability to convey emotions through performances. With over 10 years experience performing musical theatre repertoire, Rebecca Joanne is an assured performer within this classification. Although examinations are not compulsory, Musical Theatre exams can be taken under the body of LCM. Although a similar in style to ABRSM examinations, they focus entirely on repertoire performance and contextual knowledge of the music. These exams are a good way of tracking improvement within this discipline.

Speech and Vocal Studies

These lessons are aimed at people who want to improve their knowledge of the voice to enhance their techniques in public speaking. This is a fantastic learning opportunity for teachers, instructors, or people who regularly have to give speeches and presentations in their everyday work. The voice can become tired and weak when it is used frequently, this course of study will help you to understand your voice more, as well as discovering ways in which it can be protected from harm. These lessons mainly focus on vocal delivery technique, but they also use the medium of song to help advance vocal control further.

Grade 5 Theory Fast Track

This is a course designed to get people through their Grade 5 ABRSM theory exam in a short space of time. Grade 5 theory is an entry level qualification for many institutions; these lessons would be perfect for pre/current A-Level students who need this qualification to carry on to their institute of choice. It is also a great course for people who want to progress past Grade 5 in their practical grades (grade 5 ABRSM theory is compulsory if you wish to take ABRSM practical exams beyond grade 6). This course aims to put students through the exam in 2-4 months. The intensity of the course varies dependent on time available and what knowledge the student already has.
